If Turn It On says anything about Ronan Keating, it's that he's old way beyond his years. While most 26-year-old singers are chasing fashion and number ones, Keating's third solo album has him settling comfortably into his favoured role of middle-aged, middle-of-the-road country balladeer and aiming squarely at the loyal mums of Boyzone fans. The FM rock of "Turn It on Again" and "Back in the Day" aside, it's a supremely understated and sophisticated collection of easy-strummed love, dusty dirt-track plodding and campfire heartache. Cowritten by former Deacon Blue singer Ricky Ross, "She Get's Me Inside" brims with a sweetly melancholic affection. "Let Her Down Easy", penned by another one-time pop star, Terence Trent D'Arby, sways plaintively to wonderfully fragile emotions, while elsewhere there are plenty of lovable slow burners. But it wouldn't hurt Keating to lighten up and have a little fun. With early singles "Life Is a Rollercoaster" and "Lovin' Each Day" he offered all-conquering singalongs for all ages. Without such feelgood fun, Turn It On is solid but hard to get excited about. --Dan Gennoe Amazon.co.uk Review.
