If you prefer traditional music recorded in a rootsy style, Gaelic Heart is unlikely to have much appeal. On the other hand, if you have a deep love of all things "Enya-esque", or the more saccharine side of, say, Capercaillie, this will probably be just the ticket. A big glossy programmed production style, extensive use of keyboard arpeggios and reverent backing vocals, plus Munro's own overwrought vibrato all conspired to induce drowsiness. The lullaby tone of much of this album reflects the fact that the songs are all drawn from Munro's childhood listening experiences on the Isle of Skye. This is apparently the former Runrig singer's first ever all-Gaelic CD, but don't expect hardcore folklore.
Redeeming features include the extensive use of the Strath Gaelic Choir (particularly impressive on "Calum Sgàire"), and guest appearances by singer Karen Matheson and The Battlefield Band's Iain McDonald. --Jon Lusk Amazon.co.uk Review.
